the AB project
alright, I must confess, this was quite fun
Avery was a fantastic partner to work with. I've known her for a while as I met her at a anime club in 7th grade, so when Zimmerli said to choose our partners, I immediately knew who I was going to work with. our interests and abilities compared well to each other, as I drew the storyboard and played the actor, while she filmed and thought about most of the process.
I learned a lot about the six-shot sequence, and that order is important. for instance, you can't have an extreme close up, and then a regular close up in the next shot. you have to have a close up, then an extreme close up. we discussed this intently in the storyboard process. as I've said before, I was the one that drew it up, however Avery contributed greatly with her creative ideas. our story was that the student (yours truly) is in the bathroom a few minutes before the bell rings, and wants to get out of school before the halls get crowded. so, she runs all the way down the stair and to the back entrance, just as 3:00 rings.
filming was an absolute blast, I must admit. Naruto running for a grade? I'd take that any day of my life. (note: I'm not even a Naruto fan- I despise it actually. I run ironically.) although, I must confess, I was winded from all the running. we did multiple takes. but hey, at least I got a workout?
editing was a different story. editing was a hassle. the original audio files didn't even import, then when I found something that DID work, both audio files were gone. gone! I had to go with this other music that luckily worked, overall I was pretty disappointed in Adobe.
we came up with the AB sequence pretty quickly, I already had the idea in my head as I'd done it a few times in middle school. I figured it would be pretty fun to Naruto run across the halls. sorry to the graphic design room, and the animation room, as we filmed right outside. we did our best to be quiet. we showed me going down the stairs, and I'll confess it was a difficult shot. the railing was in the way, but we made it work.
overall, as I've said before, Avery and I work really well together. we collaborated well on ideas and I feel like we portrayed it relatively accurately. however, on the first day it was difficult at first as it was spirit week, and she insisted upon staying in character as Harley Quinn, it made it a bit difficult to get stuff done. I'd really try not to work during spirit week next time, and be more careful with audio files.
