Sidewalk Chalk Project

let's get this introduced.

We all learn something from a team building project. even if it's little to nothing, you still get something into your somewhat undeveloped teenage brain.

what I learned

I learned very little. given, I already had a good idea of symbolism and colors, but then again, I actually had no idea the sheer amount of symbolism in everything. even olives have something in them (in case you never knew, it means peace or victory- no wonder olive oil is so great!)
but I digress. color is rather important too, as we all know. Red often represents anger, blue sadness, white purity. you get the gist of it.

let's get this process explained!

I'm actually rather unsure how we incorporated this process into the sketching part of the project, so I may nitpick to get this part. Michael decided to put red streaks on the pure white feathers of our glorious, dancing, viola playing potato (whatever a viola is.) which, I assume would mean we flew away with anger and war tainting our pure wings. a hidden Attack on Titan reference, perhaps?

something like that.

let's talk about this team. my team.

given, I was the one sketching things out and brainstorming. My group was actually quite shy, which I didn't mind that much, however it felt awkward considering I'm normally the one going with the flow and shutting my lipstick stained mouth. they did, however, participate in the creation process itself, so at least I didn't do that one alone.

the paragraph we've all been waiting for: talking about the execution

the actual making of the symbol in sidewalk chalk was actually a fun process. it's been quite a long time since I've done anything with pastels, let alone sidewalk chalk. as you can see here (yes, my pose is absolutely amazing) I was pretty much using all of my improv skills in an attempt to look like I knew what I was doing.

(beauty in it's natural state)
the color process we went through was rather simple, actually. for the most part, it was common sense. the wings being the exception. dance shoes were pink, the potato itself was a light, potato-esque brown, and the viola clef was a nice grey color due to the lack of black chalk around the courtyard. (curse you, whatever hour used all the black chalk. imagine I'm shaking my fist with anger)

what were the symbols used in this beautiful work of art?

the wings represented Michael. I was the potato. Rose chose the dance shoes, and viola girl got the viola clef, which was originally a treble clef, but one of my friends got on my back about that so I felt obligated to change it. (they don't even play viola..)

overall?

the actual team building aspect of this project was sub-par, in my opinion. as mentioned previously, my group was rather shy, and I had to take a step up to make sure we weren't in the dust. however, our personalities were compatible as we were all socially awkward to a certain degree. our creative abilities fit somewhat like puzzle pieces, but other than the whole "I did most of the drawing thing" (shout out to viola girl for helping this little violinist with drawing alto clef, I appreciate that a lot) the project itself was actually fun. I feel like we should have talked a little more, though and voice out our ideas.
however, I do look forward to working with these people for the next four years of my life.
